Fake Obama quote
In English: "Right now I would rank Norway as the best country in the world. I have never seen anything like it".
Straight away when I saw the first Obama quote on Facebook I knew it had to be fake. First of all because it would be on the news. And second of all, the worlds most patriotic country when it comes to being the best country is the united states when they regard themselves so those words will never utter the president mouth. (not without criticism from his own people) But so many people where passing it around and I knew they would shoot the messenger if I had said anything so I didn’t. I was a coward but normally I’m the opposite but do take the heat from it. And sometimes you just get tired of taking the heat.
Gunnar Roland Tjomlid sais on his blog: "It`s embarrassing that we now in our celebration of ourselves begin to fabricate fake tributes to pat ourselves a little extra hard on the back. We have a lot to be proud of for the last few days, but now that even the worship sweeps over us all, it is important to still keep some of our critical sense."
Thankfully it`s been very few fake statements and quotes flying around. People have been really good at linking to sources and telling where the news are located. So generally I`m impressed but that not more people saw that this was a fake quote yesterday I am a little surprised of. And an interesting observation: people are more critical on Twitter than on Facebook. (all though this originated from a Norwegian celebrity on Twitter it was also revealed as fake in the same social media) This is the disadvantage and also the advantage of social media. Things are spread fast but also revealed fast.
Blog post from victims of the terrorist attack
The age group of the ones effected by the terrorist attack at Utoya has resulted in something social media has never seen before. Blog posts from the victims only a day after the attack and more coming. Many of these kids already had a blog beforehand witch explains the speed of the publishing. I will try to collect them here in this post and update it as more are being published. I`m sure you will agree that the ability to describe and tell others what happened after such a horrendous experience is remarkable.

Rightly revealed in social media?
So my prediction: there will be a new discussion about this as his name and picture is no longer anonymous nor will it be kept that way. Why? Because he is on Facebook with his profile picture. (he is even on Twitter and every words he has ever said is now being analyzed) First Sun News, then Twitter, then Facebook, then blogers (like me now) and then the press? Or will this maybe take the pressure of the press to show his photo. Everybody else is doing it anyway? Will it result in more pressure as foreign newspapers already have his picture out. Would it be okay if it where revealed in a week? Is it just the speed of it? Is it just going to fast? Wikipedia the same day:
Does it mean that you should not have photos of yourself online if your are criminal? Well, when do you become one and does the person realize that he will be remembered (if the event is big enough) for the rest of his life? Will this become a normal consequence? Yes!
The time for identity protection when Twitter and Facebook is an everyday thing is over. Is this the absolute worst of over sharing? Maybe. And maybe I`m guilty myself of over sharing. The crave for information and details have never seemed to be bigger than today. You could argue that not all information is for "the public" but who controls information to "the public". Surely not the press anymore.
I`m glad though that you can choose between following the news on TV or thru Twitter. The news channels protects us from images and videos that are disturbing and you can choose what you want to see. On Twitter you can`t to that degree. I have to admit I had no idea that news got so real - so fast in social media. (and yes I work in social media) It`s not news. It`s real life. It`s rawer, uncensored. If you where Norwegian on Twitter today you got it uncensored whether you wanted it or not. A learning message for many of us I think.
What`s interesting in this case is not that social media is first out before the press. (they often are) But that as soon as the Norwegian newspaper VG went out with his picture and name "then" it was okay! But when people was sharing his photo before hand it was in many eyes not. Who is the moral police here? Some of the people you see in the tweetstreem was criticized for giving him the attention he wanted but when Norway`s biggest website does it the criticism goes quiet. Interesting.
What`s your take?
Summer time
I'm taking summer vacation and will therefor also take a blog break. You can always reach me on my phone if anything is urgent. Or else I will be back sometime in August. (will be lecturing in social media at University of Agder all fall so for you who would like to be a student again I recommend signing up. Public school is free and it's a great course:)
Btw: blogging from my app takes 2 seconds so might throw in some pictures once in a while but no daily updates.
Happy summer everyone!!!
Borough market
Lonely Planet just named the Borough market as the top thing you can do in London for free. (if you don`t buy anything that is witch is near impossible with all the great food and products) What I love about vacations is tasting new things and hunting for "the best" among my favorites. And yes, sadly the carb diet went out the window as we say in Norway. Also a part of the vacation part:) I still have vacation but are back in Norway so now the challenge is to get back on track. So help me God.
By the way: What is so special about Monmouth coffee? The line went around the building!
Other food delights from the trip:
A different kind of marathon
We where really surprised when this crowd suddenly appeared. Roller-skating thru London must be fun! And looks a bit crazy!
Light of India - Earl's Court
The first time I was there was with all nine family members with spouses. The second time it was just me and another family member. The waiter remembered that I liked my coca cola cold without ice and extra bill-chocolate. And that just after being there one time! (I had to be a pain;)
Next time I'm in London I will stay at the Hotel this restaurant is connected to just to be able to eat there. If you are near Gloucester/Earl's Court you shod too. Adress: 67-69 Gloucester Road | South Kensington
School gets fined
Another Facebook story in the press where I give my inputs. This time a school in Sweden has been fined after firing their principle after he posted party pictures of himself topless. The debate forum in this case has really exploded. You can reed the article here!
